STEPHEN SCARLATA

Stephen Scarlata, an Italian-American originally from New York, moved to Los Angeles in 1992 to pursue a career in film after being accepted to Columbia College, Hollywood. Realizing that his eagerness to make films was not being met, together with founder David Garcia, Stephen joined Ciberpix Film School, Los Angeles. Through Ciberpix Stephen met and began development on a documentary film with co-producer Frank Pavich.

N.Y.H.C., a documentary about New York hardcore music, was Stephen’s first feature length project. With the help and recognition of actor Anthony Edwards, post-production wrapped. After its completion N.Y.H.C. played festivals in Europe, South America, and across the United States, including Rokumentti Film Festival in Finland, Mostra International de Cinema in Brazil, Lausannne Underground Film Festival in Switzerland and many more. And, the documentary was also accepted as the Official Selection at four other festivals.  Because it is one of the first films focused on the hardcore music scene in New York, the documentary has attracted a cult following. Most recently N.Y.H.C. was discusses on the Outside The Cinema pod cast as a documentary favorite.

Stephen’s first screenplay, Fiends, was co-written with Alejandro Seri, a fellow Cyberpix member. Since their first collaboration, the two have worked on five other scripts. Their current project has led them to team up with independent artists on comic book adaptations of their screenplays.

Stephen’s experience also includes spec commercials written for director Mike Wang and his recent script for the Jodorowsky’s Dune documentary.
